EJF Philanthropies pioneered the idea of the “philanthropic wrapper” for opportunity zone investments. Through this wrapper initiative, EJF Philanthropies is providing funding for job training and social enterprise employment programs in selected opportunity zones around the United States.
Pictured above: Simone Friedman presents check for a new welding training program to representatives from the City of Hardeeville and Jasper County, South Carolina. This program will be up and running in January 2020 and will train up to 30 residents to become nationally certified welders.
Pictured at left: An employee works at Rethreaded, a nonprofit social enterprise that provides a second chance at life for survivors of human trafficking in Jacksonville, Florida. With the mission of “sewing a new story”, employees create scarves, wallets, dog toys, and corporate gifts using donated materials such as misprinted cotton t-shirts and leather fabric from recycled from old seats of Southwest Airlines. Employees then sell these items through a gift shop located at the site of their manufacturing facility in Jacksonville as well as through through their online store.
