Selected Grantees Helping Youth in Washington, DC

Children's National Medical Center

EJF Philanthropies is a major funder of Children’s IMPACT DC program, which provides care and education to children in Washington, D.C. who are suffering from asthma and receiving inadequate ongoing care. This treatment helps prevent acute asthma attacks which require visits to the emergency room.

The need for IMPACT DC’s treatment approach is especially critical in lower-income parts of the city. Children from these areas have asthma attacks requiring emergency care at a significantly higher rate than children living in wealthier neighborhoods.

Milken Scholars

EJF Philanthropies partners with the Milken Institute and the Milken Family Foundation to support the Milken Scholars program in Washington, D.C.  The program selects exceptional high school students at schools in the District of Columbia to receive financial assistance and lifetime access to mentoring and professional support resources.

The Milken Scholars Program was founded in 1989 by Lori and Michael Milken to honor exceptional young men and women based on their academic achievement, community service, leadership, and triumphs over obstacles.

Since 1989, the graduation rate from top U.S. colleges and universities for Milken Scholars is 99%, with Scholars further pursuing graduate degrees and careers in law, education, business, medicine, government, science, and research. Most importantly, Milken Scholars demonstrate an ongoing commitment to change the world around them and bring meaning to the Program’s motto – Lifelong Leaders for a Better World.
